Tutoring review by Kevin in Sachse, TX
After showing the student the basics and explaining to him that there are multiple ways to do the problems and each one will get him to a correct answer, I sat back and let him try a few problems without any guidance from me. I watched him make a few mistakes, but he also caught a lot of his mistakes before they compounded themselves. This was a good learning experience for both of us and I think it will be a valuable teaching tool for our future sessions together. I also think he enjoyed the material more and felt much more confident and proud of himself after this session because I allowed him to figure things out a little more independently. Homework: I left him with a few problems from the practice exam on several topics we have covered up to this point. I hope he finds some time to work on these before we get together again next week.

Tutoring review by Eunki in Sachse, TX
The student had a quiz in chemistry the next day so we discussed stoichiometry, limiting reagents, and percent yield. While he didn't have any problems with understanding and answering stoichiometry questions, he did do some practice questions from his textbook on limiting reagents. He didn't have any problems whatsoever on this topic, but there were a couple of lingering points of confusion. Specifically, I explained that the balanced chemical reaction equation can be used to calculate the mass of any product or reactant given the mass of a sample of any of the reactants. Lastly, we went over percent yield, which wasn't difficult for him to understand - we simply reviewed how to calculate it and went over a couple of problems to get him comfortable with solving these types of problems.

Tutoring review by Christie in Sachse, TX
The student had one more reading response to do for "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." We decided to take the assignment of pages 261 to 325 to describe the nature and purpose of the religious symbolism in this part of the novel. We took a quote from Mrs. Ratchet, who was the persequitur (Pontius Pilate), two from McMurray (Jesus), and two from Bromdon (general humanity). This was the end of the book. The student has one more assignment to do before the end of break. It is an essay on "Graduating Peter," an hour and a half long documentary film. He has to watch the film again to redo his essay. We reviewed what he was going to do, and he will complete that on his own.

Tutoring review by Kathryn in Sachse, TX
Today the student read 4 humorous poems to me about various topics. She also read an article about animal adaptations and answered questions about main idea and word usage. We spent time working with play money, counting out amounts, making change, and buying things according to the scenarios the cards we were using set up. We also did an online worksheet combining various food choices to stay within a budget. She is improving in the counting out of money.
