Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"It was a pleasure to meet and work with this student today. He's bright and enthusiastic! I'm looking forward to helping him with his study skills. Today we worked with 2 of his teacher-assigned workbooks. In his grammar book, we practiced subject and predicate sentences as well as declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative types of sentences. In his writing book, we worked through a basic "building block" warm up before I had him write a letter using each of the types of sentences."
"The student and I reviewed vectors. She is getting much better at applying this, and by the end of our session she could solve them independently. We also discussed special right triangles, with 45-45-90 and 30-60-90. Next time we will do review for her upcoming test."
"Today we worked on Chi-Squared questions, how to find missing values in the given chart and how to look up values in the table. We talked about whether we reject or accept the null hypothesis and when each of these scenarios occur. We also talked about an ANOVA table and how to look up the F value in the F-distribution table. Our main focus for the next session will most likely be probability."
"We did all review work for her upcoming final next Thursday. The student was not struggling with anything, and did most of the work herself, with little guidance from me. She was obviously comfortable with the material. She did all the problems her teacher left her, and she was very confident in it. She has no more assessments in her class apart from the final, so there have been no grades/scores. There are no special concerns from this session."
"We went through the student's project, which covered t-test, regression, calculator procedures, and a couple other statistical nuances. She went from overwhelmed to understanding it fully very quickly, which tells me that some of her shortcomings in the class aren't necessarily her fault and that she has the potential to do great on the final! I'm looking forward to meeting with her again."
"The student and I worked on his practice worksheets he was given for his last quiz of the year. The topics were on surface area and volume of three-dimensional shapes. He had memorized most of his formulas, and only needed to be taught the volume of a cylinder and a few tips on calculating surface area."
