Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session on Friday, we looked at student's test for a little while. We then started looking at her new material-- ratios and percentages. She did pretty well on this since much of it works off of proportions (which she is very good at and enjoys doing)."
"During this session, the student and I worked on his science fair project by finishing making his last round of muffins. Apparently, the first three batches turned out well! He also had access to a cooking scale, which will help him determine the density of the different kinds of muffins."
"I went through the student's math textbook (theories and practice problems) with her on surface areas and volumes for trigonal pyramid (and bipyramid), square pyramid (and bipyramid), trigonal prism, rectangular prism, and combinations of these forms. I also taught her how to simplify the math equations to get quicker answers within shorter period of time."
"We reviewed understanding the relationship between multiplication and division, choosing the correct equation to solve a word problem and using visual models to help understand and solve word problems."
"I met with the student and discussed the questions she and her husband have about how to calculate a readiness number in a complex situation. We went over the spread sheets and calculated the numbers in a couple different ways. In the end, the student seemed satisfied that we had come up with a reasonable way to analyze and present the data."
"Preparation for the AP exam is in full swing. The student and I spent our time analyzing various piece-wise graphs to find critical points and points of inflection. He usually has a very strong, accurate approach to these problems and just needs some clarification of the big idea or a minor detail he might be missing."
