Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on reviewing our basic skills of multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction as we had spent the last few sessions on specialized material. We worked on doing all tasks intermingled so as to not just do the same task repetitively. We did problems with one value missing such as:25 x N = 200. I left the student with a similar worksheet to the ones we worked on so she could practice them herself."
"The student and I went over his homework due this week in preparation for a quiz. We covered domain and range of polynomials, vertical, horizontal, and oblique asymptotes, and graphing the function. While he had a few issues with sign changes, we slowed his pace down just a tad so he could catch his own mistakes. He seemed to grasp this material very well! He will be getting back to me tomorrow, Monday, to schedule another tutoring session for Wednesday."
"The student has an upcoming test covering definite integrals. In this session we went over the topics that would be on her test. She has the most trouble with word problems. It appears that she has a difficult time picking out what information is given to her and what she needs to determine. To help her with this I showed her my method of doing problems like these. I told her to read each sentence or phrase individually and stop to understand it in its entirety before moving on. We again reviewed Riemann Sums and the concept that an integral is very much a Riemann Sum. I left her with the multiple choice section of the AB Calculus AP test for her to try to do in my absence."
"The student and I worked on an integration review packet that was assigned to her in class. Going over this material, she seemed to understand but still needs to work on remembering the theorems and the equations used to solve related rates problems. I know with more practice and trying different approaches to these problems, she will have it down before test day."
"The student and I met to prepare for his final exam. We worked through parts of an AP exam and discussed techniques for studying for a cumulative exam. He has forgotten about some of the earlier material in the semester but our discussion does help him remember. I asked him to create a "roadmap" for calculus to help him better recall all the relevant concepts and techniques."
"We covered: finding the slope of a line in tables, graphs and pairs of points. We also covered: finding the equation of a line in slope intercept form using tables, graphs and pairs of points."
