Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test on bonding and molecular geometry this coming Monday, so we were able to use her study guide to work through the topics she felt uncertain about. At this point, it seems that she is more than capable of learning this material. We talked through all of the bullet points on her study guide on different types of bonds, periodic trends, and drawing Lewis structures, and found examples in the book as practice along the way. I periodically helped her consult her notes to check the level of detail with which her teacher discussed certain topics. By the end, she seemed much more confident with all of the material for the exam. From here, we'll continue to use her homework assignments, upcoming exams, and class notes to guide our discussions."
"The student and I started reviewing basic concepts in Chemistry, like balancing equations and writing formulas of compounds. We also went over organic compounds, their functional groups, and how to name them."
"The student had received a new work packet on the ideal gas law. We reviewed the material that was due for the next class section. The student understood the principles of converting between different units of pressure. We went over the three variations on the ideal gas law, Boyle's law, Charles' law, and Gay-Lussac's law, each holding one variable constant and graphing the other two. The student seemed to follow my explanation, and was able to answer the concept questions related to Boyle's law, as well as solve a couple of practice examples for all three. We discussed the student's feelings on how she was performing. She felt that the tutoring was making a difference for her."
