Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I assigned the student an essay on 1984. He did a better job with the prompt this time. He was happier with it. We also worked on some listening using French songs. The student shows a solid aptitude for listening."
"We worked on state exam prep. The student had a writing homework assignment which we reviewed. We also went over a writing test that he had done from the test prep book."
"We looked over her paper that is due on Thursday. We specifically worked on transitions, restructuring and grammar."
"The student and I started the session by reviewing his homework assignment. He was to use a graphic organizer I provided to describe his room. He did well, with few run-on sentences. We worked on an activity to create more complex sentences in his writing. We also reviewed comma usage to ensure that he was comfortable with the content. He did very well. I left him with a short story that was filled will simple elementary level sentences. His job was to combine some of those sentences to add more strength to the writing. In our next session, we will go over correct verb tense and organization skills."
"The student and I started to work through Herodotus. He read the introduction and the first section about the kings of Lydia. I explained words and ideas that he didn't know. I also used Google maps to help illustrate what part of the world Herodotus was referring to. He seemed very interested and asked great questions. I am excited to read this book with him."
"The student and I started today's lesson with an online assessment so that I can better understand where she struggles in her writing and reading comprehension skills. She completed the assessments, and it was clear that she struggles with things like author's tone and purpose, identifying themes/motifs, and drawing conclusions. I believe this highly influences her ability to write and generate her own introductions, conclusions, and summaries; therefore, we will work on these skills in congruence with writing to give her the best help possible."
