Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on spelling, writing sentences, and reading (the last ten minutes of class). For homework, I left spelling, review of sentences."
"The student and I continued our vocabulary work from our previous sessions with the help of the manual and flashcards. His specialized computer knowledge and interest in technology have come in handy with learning new words - after all, "obsolete" is a useful term that comes up often in discussions of electronics! While his listening comprehension is excellent, there are still many rather basic areas of vocabulary that he needs development in - onomatopoeias have been a focus (e.g. "waddle"), as well as abstractions like emotions and personal attributes ("tact", "candid", "aghast")."
"The student continues to show a good command of conversational English. Minor notes are taken for his use. Improvements have come and will continue to come with practice."
"The student and I started off his session with some readings about sports and some comprehension passages to accompany the readings. We then discussed paragraph structures through the use of a paragraph sandwich. Finally, we brainstormed how to write about the vacation from which he just got back. We did a concept map followed by an outline that we talked through."
"The student and I started reading "Diary of a Wimpy Kid- Dog Days." We worked on character development and vocab. We will continue on with this same book on Thursday with different activities. She seems to be enjoying this book."
"The student and I started reading "Touching Spirit Bear" together. We discussed what it means to have a system of justice and discussed the actions of the main character and the journey that he had before him. The student did very well on comprehension, but we are working on making his answers to the questions more in-depth and to include textual evidence."
