Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We focused on ACT science and ACT math and then reviewed test-taking skills. The student took several practice tests, and his scores have drastically improved since his first test."
"The student and I met for a short (1 hr. only) session to discuss Saturday's ACT and to do some science practice."
"We finished our work with the Reading section, and scheduled the rest of the time for a review of Math (with the goal of increasing recognition time to answer a greater number of questions). The student did well with the time limit for Reading, and while accuracy will hopefully improve with more practice, she does seem to handle nerves better when given a task (as opposed to receiving prompting and micromanagement). We then went through each subject (except for trig) on the Math test in condensed fashion (pre-algebra, elementary/intermediate algebra, and coordinate/planar geometry). Her math skills are fine, though when she makes a mistake or feels rushed, she has a tendency to get rattled and make further errors. However, if she goes into the test with the necessary formulas in her working memory, I would expect (based on my observations in session) that she will perform better without someone looking over her shoulder, as it were. I recommended some light prep work in memorization, as well as approaching the test with a "one question at a time" mindset. We will continue to work on alleviating her nervousness and building her confidence in our future sessions."
