Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over chapter 4 which is about discrete random variables. I showed her how to find the expected value and the mean of a discrete probability table using her calculator. We also went over the binomial theorem. For this session, she was very knowledgeable on her use of the calculator and the concepts. Overall, the session was great."
"In this session the student wanted to continue reviewing for her exam in research methods. We covered a number of topics related to two groups designs. Specifically, we went over correlated vs independent groups, repeated measures, paired groups, natural pairs groups designs. We also talked about effect size."
"Today we worked on random variables. We covered the difference between discrete and continuous random variables and practiced finding probabilities for both. For discrete variables, we calculated the expected value and standard variation of a single roll of two dice. For continuous variables, we mostly reviewed z-scores, as this is the method for finding probabilities of ranges of outcomes. Finally we quickly discussed transforming random variables."
"The student now has a complete syllabus that has her homework for the rest of the year. We were doing the start of chapter 8. It's on different statistical estimators. We did the standard error and margin of error calculations."
"Today we went over the F test to analyze differences in variance between groups. The student caught on really quickly and seems to have a good mastery of the past few sections of hypothesis testing. We also started the outline for her project, and she has already collected all the data for it. We talked about what kind of test would be best and how to run it."
"We reviewed some of the concepts from Chapter 2 that the student needed additional practice with (standard deviation, graphing, etc.). I showed her how to access the next lesson and HW, although the next lab was not posted yet. I left her with extra practice problems to do on MSL as well as well as an extra help intro to stat DVD which could help her understand some of the concepts."
