Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered Chemistry lectures 1-2 and Biology lecture 1. We went through all of the in-lecture questions and 30-min after lecture exam questions. I also administered a quiz on the periodic table and sent her additional quizzes and tests on the recently covered material. I assigned Chemistry lecture 3 and Biology lecture 2 along with a full-length verbal section for the weekend."
"The student and I began by going over the three physics chapters she reviewed for this session: Electricity, Magnetism, and Circuits. We spent our first hour together going over problems at the end of each chapter she had found difficult. We went through various problems requiring the right hand rule. We also identified that she knew the equations well, but sometimes had trouble manipulating them in the necessary way. We then did a practice passage on electricity from the back of the physics review notes. She did very well and I continued to emphasize the need for her to feel confident in her abilities! Finally, we did a practice verbal reasoning passage, which she did very well on. She is on her way to nailing the MCAT!"
"The student and I reviewed the entirety of her physiology material, including nephrology, CV physiology, lymphatics, nervous conduction, sodium/potassium balance, and muscle structure. We will review her next practice exam at our next session."
"We talked a bit about the student's difficulties with the last test that she took, and I gave some big picture advice for the test. I then explained how to diagram or illustrate a logic game, and we practiced on two games. We then worked through a few logical arguments--focusing on understanding the passages and knowing what we were looking in the answers before reading the answers. The student is going to take a practice test between now and Saturday when we meet again. We will work through incorrect answers and difficult sections from that test."
"Final session, GMAT Quant focusing on work rates, mixtures, geometry of circles and triangles, test taking strategies, keeping cool, warrior attitude, working at hyperdrive for extended periods of time."
"Today we went over questions the student had from the practice test. These included blood type questions (ii=O type=universal donor, iAi/iAiA = A type, iBi/iBiB = B type, iAiB = type AB = universal acceptor; Rh factor (+)), organic chemistry questions (priority groups with R and S, planar molecules, etc.), and a few QR problems. I also emailed her an explanation of how to solve word-type age questions in the QR section. We will be meeting again a few times in the upcoming two weeks, since her exam has been rescheduled to the 4th of March."
