Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed previous exams and studied the relationship between displacement, velocity, and acceleration curves."
"Student has moved on to basic optics. I spent time explaining how images get formed in mirrors and reviewing her homework for class."
"On Tuesday the student and I went over his physics homework. He had a worksheet on identifying the magnitude and direction of forces acting on a car as it goes around a banked corner. He did a good job identifying which forces were where and using trigonometric functions to find the components of the force vectors. He is improving with his use of trig to break vectors into their x/y components. He was a little bit unclear about centripetal acceleration/force. We talked about it a bit and I referred him to a good physics website that explains in depth."
"The student and I went over practice Physics problems involving the topics of forces and Newton's laws. She was very receptive, and by the end of the session, she demonstrated that she understood the material by solving the problems correctly."
"The student had his exam since the last time we met, and got scores back yesterday. He did much better than on the previous exam. We spent about 50 minutes reviewing a few questions from the test, focusing on problems involving torque and rotation. I showed him how a few key words can give hints as to strategy. We spent the last half hour on new material regarding waves, especially the difference between wave velocity and particle velocity."
"The student had problems being able to do the problem set on 1-dimensional motion that I sent her. She was very eager to learn though and asked a lot of questions about the areas she was confused over. I took her through the problem set step by step and taught her how not to overcomplicate the graphs. We will be meeting again and I will be resending her a problem a set to work on for then."
