"Tonight the student took several practice tests. The areas that still trip him up seem to generally be comparisons and percentages. We worked extensively through these problems areas. We spent a lot of time working through different versions of "X is Y% of what number." What will really help him is mastering the equation equivalents of these questions. I created several examples of different questions and had him solve them. For the comparisons, we worked through several flashcards and he seemed to get more and more comfortable with the material. At the end I gave him a list of subjects he should consider studying more."
"The student took his second of three placement exam practice tests the day before our session. We were both surprised to find that his second test was basically a mirror copy of his first. Accordingly, he was extremely confident, able to improve on any areas that he had second guesses on the previous attempt. If his third test follows suite, I'm sure that he will get into his chosen school. As a matter of fact, even if it is a completely new test with fresh questions, my confidence level hovers near 90% for his admittance. We worked through all sections, making sure that his fundamentals were all sound and he didn't rush any single question."
"This was the last session for Student 1 and Student 2. Student 2 took a test last week and said that all of it felt easy, except for the Verbal Reasoning section due to the vocabulary. We focused specifically on two sections of a study guide book, one with synonym groupings and one with common roots (bases and prefixes). We also assessed readiness based on how they felt and what I've observed over the weeks. They're both very ready, and I expect them both to perform well next week!"
