Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student informed me that she had a quiz the next day, specifically on reflexive verbs and some vocabulary. Through our review, it became clear that she was having trouble distinguishing between regular pronouns and possessive pronouns. We incorporated this into our review of conjugating the specific verbs that were to be on her quiz tomorrow, as well as an in depth review of reflexive verbs and some review of stem changing verbs. We did a practice quiz and reviewed her answers. By the end of the session, she seemed to feel much more confident with the use and application of possessive pronouns, as well as the reflexive verbs. Her attitude was great throughout the session. I left her with some study tools to better her study habits in learning a language, as it can be quite different than studying for any other subject. I believe with perseverance and dedication she will do splendidly."
"We began with irregular verb conjugation, specifically for estar+verb present progressive (ando/iendo). The student completed a handout listing about 25 verbs, and we corrected the irregulars he missed together. I attempted to bracket similar stem changing verbs so they would be easier to remember. We also reviewed DOP and IDOP rules, and ended with reflexive pronouns. His midterm is this week, and we will see where he struggles the most. I am anxious to have time with him to review vocabulary and work on translation as well as the new concepts."
"The student and I covered Spanish direct object pronouns (DOPs), regular verb conjugations, and reviewed some of the strategies we used last week. DOPs he seemed to know well based on the worksheet he'd completed in class and the practice questions we did together. However he is still mastering matching subject and verb conjugation. Overall at the end of the session, it felt like we made some progress in DOPs and vocabulary understanding. I'm going to leave him with some extra subject/verb conjugation practice to complete before or next meeting."
"We worked on preparing for a quiz the student has on Monday. We worked on French slang, reviewing the characters and main points from the movie they watched in class, and then the difference between formal, colloquial, and informal speech. The student worked very well and seemed to be knowledgeable about the subjects we were reviewing."
"During this session with the student, we reviewed the "demonstratifs", adjectives, and pronouns. Previously to our session, I had sent her an explanation with charts and some exercises. We reviewed the rules and when and why to use them giving her lots of examples. So, after this instead of doing the exercises I decided to make her practice her listening comprehension. I read her some passages in French and asked her some questions about it. She did it very well, so for the next time we decided to practice with longer passages. We also decided to work on prepositions for our next session, and I will send her a review and exercises about it."
"Today we played some French games in order to draw from a broader pool of vocabulary. We played Boggle and a game called 7 Mots in order to be able to form our own words from given letters and find words based on clues."
