Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student reviewed his programming assignment, and he fixed some small bugs he was having. We implemented the parallelogram and triangle functions, which draw their respective shapes in command prompt. We also went over his next coding project, and he got an idea of how to do the extra credit part of it."
"We worked on the file reading and encryption program. The student already has the code laid out and only the encryption part needed to be finalized. We managed to work it out together."
"Today the student and I covered CSS attr selectors, forms, and counters; we moved on to CSS3, with rounded corners and border images. The student was struggling most with grasping the concept of counters, but I talked her through it and by the end, she knew what they were and how they worked."
"We covered the following: 1. Downloading, opening, and creating attachments with an email, 2. Bookmarking and registering for a website (AIG), and 3. Internet safety and making purchases online. The final step-by-step tutorials and notes will be sent directly to your email. "
"We reviewed homework problems from his virtual course. We discussed the important distinction between hard-coding and generalizing the solution. He was often wrapped up with the specific example input and wrote programs that would only answer that problem when the problem asked for a solution that could take a range of inputs. I wish that his problems had a set of test cases, rather than one, as this might help reinforce the concept. I think he will break out of his mentality with time. "
"We talked about project guidelines. We discussed current state of code. We looked into refactoring old code for easier use and clearer separation of functionality. We created a new script for each item. We talked about Generic Classes and Functions. We talked about inheritance briefly. We created a new script for the player inventory that is used to Add and Remove items."
