Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began the student's exam preparation today. We covered how to multiply, divide, add, and subtract fractions and she completed percentage to decimal conversions."
"Today we worked on adding and subtracting fractions , LCD, and improper fractions. We are going to meet again on Thursday for just an hour to work on slope. The student has a good handle on adding and subtracting fractions."
"In this session, the student and I worked on slope. She practiced finding the slope of a line using rise/run and she practiced graphing a line when she knew the slope and one point on a line. She also practiced graphing lines when she was given two points. We talked about how slope, rise/run, and rate are expressing the same ideas, and that clarified for her how to use the rise/run formula to find slope. We practiced drawing a right triangle and counting rise and run. In addition, the student and I worked on her challenge problems. She did some AMAZING problem solving work on her own to complete this practice. I see her becoming more confident in her ability to solve challenging problems. We finished the session by reviewing word problems with ratios and rates. We used problems in the textbook similar to work we've done in the last two weeks."
"Today we are working on the review session of the whole semester. The student has practices on function definitions, relationships, combine functions, inverse function, transformation of functions and completing squares to find the standard form of quadratic functions. She is doing quite well on most of the subject."
"Today we covered techniques of differentiation. I derived the concept of a derivative for the student so that he could have an innate understanding of what a derivative does, then we covered some rules of differentiation to help him compute derivatives. Amongst these rules were the power rule, product rule, and chain rule. We also covered how to take the derivatives of exponential and logarithmic expressions. Ultimately we did several practice problems concerning each of these topics."
"We started on some stats problems. I showed the student how to find missing variables. We also reviewed trig functions dealing with right triangles. Next time we will reviewed the unit circle and other trig functions."
