"The student had a worksheet on similar shapes, so we applied the ratio and proportion review from the previous session. I walked her through one of each type of problem, and then she was able to complete the rest with little difficulty."
"In this session, we reviewed the trigonometry concepts that we had covered yesterday. I feel that the student has improved in his understanding of solving for the sides and angles of triangles. He now knows when to use inverse trigonometric functions. We also talked about how to find complementary angles. I wanted to ensure that he understood the difference between reciprocal and complementary functions, so we spent some time on this topic. Finally, we discussed special right triangles, and I advised that he redraw the triangles to make sure he can clearly identify the sides. Overall, I think he is in good shape for his quiz tomorrow. He told me he will answer questions slowly and think carefully as he solves the trigonometry problems."
"The student and I went over homework he had dealing with solving and graphing systems of equations. I gave him a couple of techniques to help him overcome difficulties he had with some of the problems. He was initially confused when a linear equation (y=mx+b) has variables on sides that don't align with that pattern (e.g.. 2x-4y=3). I helped him understand the process for isolating a single variable on one side."
"We worked on parabolas today. We went over how to find the vertex of a parabola and how the equation will transform the size and shape of the parabola. We also went over a couple of quick biology questions that she had."
"Today, we worked on geometry. The lesson was on the Pythagorean Theorem, which is used to find an unknown length given the length of two sides of a right triangle. We also used it to determine whether a triangle was obtuse, acute, or right. In the process, we reviewed how to rationalize a denominator. We also used trig functions to find lengths of triangles given a side length and angle measurement."
"The student and I worked on problems involving rates of changes for various functions. She had to use the slope formula for the slope of a straight line. We reviewed finding the slope of a straight line to help reinforce her comprehension."
