History Tutoring review by Ryan in Orange County, CA
In today's lesson with the student, we reviewed the Antebellum period of American history (1830's-1850's) with particular emphasis on the abolitionist, temperance and women's rights movements and the rising tension between pro- and anti-slavery expansionists. We also discussed the Mexican-American War and the settlement of the West, as well as the emergence of American literature (the Transcendentalists, Hawthorne, Melville, etc.). I gave the student readings to do out of the U.S. history books and had him answer multiple choice questions. Lastly, we discussed his American literature class, especially in regards to Henry David Thoreau and Mark Twain. We also reviewed rhetorical terms.

History Tutoring review by Kathryn in Orange County, CA
The student and I went over essays that she had already worked, and also made a plan for how things would go moving forward. I was able to get a clear sense of how she writes and where she needs to improve, and approximately how long writing an essay should reasonably take her. She's good at the basic of writing. I left her with her next few assignments to do until we meet again to keep her on pace.

History Tutoring review by Kenneth in Orange County, CA
Today we had a great session! We prepared for the student's test tomorrow by going through definitions for identifications and working on how to study them. Next we worked on conceptual ideas that will be on the test. We also brainstormed and then outlined the material she will include on her project that she completed after I left. We will meet to go through the material systematically and make sure she is as prepared as possible for the exam.

History Tutoring review by Daniel in Orange County, CA
Today we continued reading about the era in which Rabbinical Judaism became the hegemonic Jewish faction, all others being labeled heretics, with an emphasis on the relationship between the Rabbis' assumption of power and the traditional knowledge and power of Jewish women. Because the Rabbis restricted authoritative teaching and interpretation of Torah and therefore the Law to their own institution, their power was threatened by traditional knowledge, particularly that of women. Several of the Mishnah/ Talmud stories from that era show Rabbis negating the power of women to interpret Torah for themselves (and according to the traditions of Jewish women) when deciding how their husbands may treat them (primarily during intercourse).
