Tutoring review by John in Belton, MO
The student has a quiz coming up on Wednesday, so we looked through the more difficult problems from the sections on triangle similarity. We then previewed the next section on applications of similarity. He did very well throughout all of the work. We realized that one effective strategy for him is to slow down on quiz problems and not let his mind get too far ahead of him. He earned a B on his last quiz, but he said it was a very difficult quiz and that he understands all of his mistakes.

Today we went over sum and difference formulas and how to apply them in different situations. The student said they did not get to practice this a lot on in class because they have only had half days. He seemed to do pretty well with this concept.

Tutoring review by Steven in Belton, MO
In this session we covered how to find the derivative of polynomial functions, and then how to find the derivative of a polynomial function at a point. We also covered how to calculate the slope of a tangent line given a point on a curve. In this session the student was much more confident as she knew the rule for differentiating a polynomial function and she is skilled with her algebra so the session went smoothly. She scored an 82% on her first homework.

Geometry - We spent majority of time with equations involving intersecting lines. I gave advice on test prep strategies and self-evaluation. Awareness of when student already understands a concept, only in different terminology, is important.

Tutoring review by Kate in Belton, MO
The student and I spent a lot of time reviewing the entire Algebra 2 workbook to ensure she was caught up on the vocabulary and procedures. She mentioned she had the book all summer and it was important that she remember how to do all of the concepts before she take her final exam on the book. I also gauged some of her skill gaps (graphing, test practice, functions, and fractions). We then assigned lessons for her to work on, and she is to get the rest of the Algebra books so that I can create an individual curriculum for her.
