Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Both students were present. We spent time preparing for the upcoming exams in Spanish. Student 1 is working on a chapter 8 verb test, and Student 2 is working on present tense -ir and -er verbs. We spent time doing five minute drills on a Spanish language website. Both students are watching 12 Angry Men in English. I asked them to begin their study guides for English."
"We outlined a study schedule for the student's final's week and we reviewed some trigonometric concepts with which he was having some difficulty."
"The student and I prepared for his English exam which will take place tomorrow. First, I asked him to complete 2 fill-in-the-blank worksheets I had prepared earlier which tested him on his knowledge of vocabulary words. After he completed the exercises I went over each sentence with him to make sure he understood any mistakes he made. After that activity, I created an outline on his whiteboard including everything he had learned about folk literature. I made sure to answer any questions and confirm that he understood everything before moving on. Then we reviewed each folk tale in detail by answering practice questions I had written to practice writing complete sentences and review each story. After that I gave him some tips for test-taking highlighting the importance of taking his time and reading each question carefully before answering. Then we discussed the two novels he read in class by discussing important concepts from the books out loud. He really seems to understand each novel."
"Today, the student and I focused on writing interest letters to colleges. We did research about different institutions and found good universities with renowned pre-med programs that the student will apply to. We also began the process of outlining what she wants to say to the colleges and universities. We looked over one letter that she wrote and made necessary changes to improve the fluidity of the writing. She shared with me that she got an 8 out of 9 on an extensive writing piece this week, showing that our hard work with her writing skills is paying off! She had difficulty organizing what she wanted to say in another interest letter, so we practiced outlining her thoughts before starting the letter. She also needs to do more research about the institutions that she is applying for. She will do more research and continue to work on her interest letter today before I see her tomorrow."
"We focused primarily on the materials we will be using for the student's finals. We set aside additional time to discuss proper essay creation for tests such as history."
"We had a great session. He has finals coming up this week, so we spent time studying for those. We worked through about 45 minutes of the review packets for both his math class and physics class. He should continue to work on those and compile his notes from the classes. We have a session scheduled for Wed at 1:30 pm."
