Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The section that the student was working on in class covered solving the quadratic using the perfect square method. Before we could do this, we spent almost an hour covering algebra material that was imperative to understand before working on more advanced quadratics. She has not learned many of the algebra 1 concepts that will allow her to gain an understanding of what is happening in algebra 2. My plan of attack for future sessions will be to do some review before we get to the current material each week, as she needs that base of knowledge. I instructed her to do extra practice on some of the more basic problems that we began the session with. I informed her that as long as she puts in the effort, we will get her to a level that she is at least comfortable with the material."
"Worked with the student on his homework and the pop quiz he had had difficulty with. After we nailed those concepts down, he had no more issues with his homework or his quiz. He should be fairly well prepared for his chapter test on Friday."
"The student began with homework problems from class regarding geometric pair relationships of lines and angles. This will eventually build to introduce the formation of proofs based on theorems and postulates, so I was careful to dig deeper into each assumption he made, so that he would be able to articulate how and why he made certain assumptions in order to equate certain expressions solving for variables and ultimately resolving angle measures. He solved and defended his conclusions well in these problems, and I eventually gave him a physics application problem attempting to tie in geometry."
"We did the student's homework mainly covering implicit differentiation and applications thereof. She said that she has a 79 in the class. I suggested that she buy a book and do practice problems from it. No concerns."
"The student and I went over his quiz and talked about the questions he got wrong and what he can improve on when he retakes it. We also did a bit of practice on implicit differentiation to prepare for his unit test this week."
"Today the student and I worked on complex numbers. We also worked on her chemistry study guide for her exam. She did very well on both but she surprised me with how fast she picked up complex numbers."
"The student and I went over his algebra homework on solving systems of equations by elimination. He did very well, and correctly applied concepts from previous units. We then went through his English packet on pronouns, focusing on the compound subjects who and whom. He greatly improved as we progressed through the packet."
"The student is still working on basic word problems for homework. I want to start giving her more to do on her own that we then review together."
"We worked on more pre algebra skills that had to do with 1 and 2 step equations involving multiplication and division. We also worked on long division, as this is a skill I noticed the student needed more support on."
"The student had just begun a new section in her algebra class. This session was more of a preparation session than anything else. What we went over were trend lines, scatter plots, and concepts of this nature. We made index cards and I showed her ways to memorize the definitions so that she would be able to identify them on exams. I look to begin working on problems and practice next week when her class begins to make more progress in the unit."
"The student and I studied for her test, going over quadratic equations, solving for these equations, and the word problems associated with them. She should do very well on her exam. Then, we went over her chemistry lab assignment on flame tests. She has a good understanding of the concepts, so she is off to a good start in this class."
"The student had a test the next day, so we reviewed for the test. He felt confident on the review materials that his teacher gave him. He was able to answer most of the questions on his own. We worked on inverse functions and composition of functions."
