Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session, we started by reviewing the students' results on the second practice test. Both girls had done it, which is good, and with Student A there was marked improvement for the sections we had already covered together. For Student B, there was some progress in all three sections and maybe a little more in the math. Afterward, we went over the critical reading section of the SAT. We began by looking at the questions both students got wrong on the test, then we rewound and looked at the advice the SAT book gave on critical reading. We also went over certain study strategies that the girls could use to be better prepared for the test. These were mainly vocabulary acquisition techniques: look up and write a definition for every word you don't know in the practice examples. Make "word maps" and relate the word to as many other words (synonyms, words with the same root) as possible. Also: always look at the prompt or the passage and try to figure out the answer from there before looking at the options the test offers."
"We worked on math and vocabulary, and I gave the student some vocab to practice. He is doing well on math."
"We worked on Math (exponents) this session. I assigned the remaining algebra and exponents for homework, as well as a reading and writing section."
