Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we focused on the recent gas laws test and went over all of the material on which the student lost points. The test consisted of two sections: multiple choice of a more conceptual nature and open-ended problems. All of the open-ended problems were thoroughly worked-out."
"We reviewed pH, pOH, Kw, and their relationships to the concentration of H+ and OH-. We then moved on to redox reactions and worked problems for assigning oxidation numbers, how to write half reactions, how to balance redox reactions, and definitions of oxidation, reduction, oxidizing agent, and reducing agent. We plan to meet again on Sunday. I asked the student to complete at least 1 practice problem each day until we meet again to keep the concepts fresh in his mind."
"We covered new material for this exam, including transition metals and their properties such as the chelating effect, crystal theory, and naming coordination compounds. We will be having our last session on Monday where we will go over the practice final exam and any last minute questions the student has."
"We extensively went over acids and bases and how to use Ka and Pka to determine the strength of an acid and a base. We talked about titration and titration curves. We did several examples of these concepts and went over the Henderson Hasselbach Equation. Overall I felt like it was a lot of info but went really well!"
"During this session, for science, thermodynamics was reviewed by reviewing homework packet questions, of which 5 pages were completed in advance. In algebra, square roots were reviewed by discussing completed homework problems."
"We reviewed ketones and aldehydes, hydrates and ylides, reductions of ketones and aldehydes (NaBh4), reduction of esters and carboxylic acids (LIAlH4), the Wittig reaction mechanism, imines and enamines, retrosynthesis, dioles ketal/acetals and protective groups, soft and hard nucleophiles, tamd hermal vs kinetic control."
