Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This week marked the end of a grading period for the student, so she did not have a lot of new concepts to review in math. However, we reviewed and practiced previous concepts and the new material that she did have. The student completed these problems with ease. I am seeing a conscious effort from her to slow down when working a problem, and she is making fewer minor mistakes. The 2nd half of our session was devoted to reviewing the student's Spanish presentation over traditional Puerto Rican food."
"Discussed the basics and background information behind GridWorld - an extended case study used throughout the AP Comp Sci test as a backbone setup to test proficiency in various programming concepts - from basic class construction to abstraction and inheritance. Practiced several examples from the Student's guide, using the attached appendices to figure out what the correct solution to each question is."
"The student and I reviewed her World Religions quiz and 3 discussion questions. We then outlined her History of Photography discussion question and finished reading an article to summarize and explain the History of Photography research paper."
"Like usual, the student and I started with an overview of everything learned to date. I was impressed with the student's ability to retain the information after several days without meeting. We then went over exponents again, and we began doing problems with negative exponents. I left the student with a sheet of practice problems to complete for Thursday afternoon's session."
"The student did great today. He worked on his homework for English, which involved answering short-essay questions for a short story he read in class. He answered the first one, and then we reviewed it together and discussed how to improve his writing, include details and organize them without using run-on sentences. I think he understood very well and we made a lot of great improvements to his original draft. I was grateful he brought both his writing and reading binders/assignments with him to our session today so I can see exactly what he's working on in school and not add non-related homework to his load. Today was great, the student is great!"
"We did some additional work on specifying the student's model, and on presenting his results in his final paper. He has a couple of weeks to go on it, so I think there will be time to put it together right."
