Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was our last session before the student's test. We focused on writing skills and critical reading skills, and I timed him doing a page at a time, and then we went over correct answers together. I think it was important to move to a more test-taking environment, where he will have to be semi-conscious of time. This method worked pretty well,. He expressed several times that his confidence has improved, which I can sense. He has taken more ownership of explaining his own errors as well as the proper answers. We faced our most difficult questions with sentence completion/vocabulary questions. I encouraged him to focus just on the sentences in context, not all the other ideas the sentence made him think of. This will be very important for him to remember on test day, both for accuracy and speed."
"We focused on the Critical Reading section of the PSAT. This included a deeper continuation for tactics followed by practice sections to help identify further areas of focus. The student struggles mostly with inference questions and with vocabulary questions."
"We worked on critical reading as well as vocabulary skills. I suggested that she start reading a newspaper to get the type of style that is used in the passage is for the PSAT more easily understandable for her. She is doing a great job though and continues to be able to narrow it down to the two most likely answers. I've also told her to start working on vocabulary and 15 words a week with sentences in them should start her at a fairly good pace. She continues to do very well!"
