We then worked some with context clues, and did a review sheet where she chose the correct word for each sentence by using the context clues. We also went over the homework I left last time--a reading comprehension selection and questions.

We sang songs/hand clapping rhymes for vocabulary and fluency. We then re-read familiar text of her choice and then of my choice. We set a goal, and she earned a prize. She predicted how many miscues she would make. The reward was a gel pen. She read the text carefully and self-monitored. We also talked about book reports, and she created one (first time for her).

We sorted words between hard and soft "C" sounds, since the student had been having trouble with that before, and then read a poem together. He did very well with that, which was encouraging, because the poem was at the grade level he should be reading at. After that, we read a section of prose, which he did well with. We are going to continue working on that prose, and I will be asking him questions about its content next time, to make sure he is picking up the meaning of what he reads.
