Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I tested the student with reading and vocabulary inventories to see which areas she needed help with. I found that her comprehension was good, but she needed help with phonics and word recognition. We worked on some phonic activities, reading, letter recognition and substitution strategies."
"The student and I first went over the three questions regarding finding quadratic equations when given three points on the graph. Next we reviewed the questions from the section on Bernoulli's equation. We finished those questions and, combined with the Friday session, reviewed all the material for her test this week. We wrapped up the session by reviewing the end of the chapter conceptual questions. We will met again on Friday."
"The student presented a composition on St. Thomas Aquinas' proof of God, and we discussed St. Francis de Sales' treatment of sensation and sensibility. With the group, we began dictation, read some from Le Petit Prince, and continued conversation."
"Met with the student again, and went over some more "write this method" exercises. We have a tentative review session scheduled for sometime before he takes the state exam. He begins 3 days of taking his final test on Monday."
"First meeting. Worked through genomic sequences and the sum of those sequences. After gaining a grasp on those concepts, we moved to chemistry and worked on redox reactions. Covered half reactions and putting them back together. I think that the next lesson will involve batteries and electro chemistry."
" Today, the student and I reviewed new vocabulary from our last session. I tested her on verb conjugation (manger, prendre) and also gave her a math test in which I gave her math problems in French and asked that she write out the numbers in French. The student is really coming along in her pronunciation and her retention of French expressions."
"Worked examples of differentiation using the product rule, quotient rule, and composite rule, developed Fermat's rule for stationary points, discussed local and absolute maxima and minima, worked an example application from electrodynamics, developed the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus."
"During this session, the student and I continued to cover math concepts that he will see on the ISEE. We focused on geometry and percentages/fractions decimals, and did some review on factors/multiples. During the next session, we will review the materials we have covered before moving on to cover basic and advanced algebra."
"Today, student went over his review packet for his upcoming test on mechanisms of evolution. We discussed the three main forms of selection and how they affect distribution. In addition we went over taxonomy and how various homologies point to common ancestors and contribute to our knowledge of the tree of life."
"Analyzed the cost curve, identifying total cost, average cost, average variable cost, and marginal cost. Converted from multiplicative to log form of Cobb-Douglas production function. Worked problems in old test focused on economic logic."
"We worked on a few worksheets practicing adding and subtracting in word problems and basic penmanship. Then we played a math game and incorporated numeric problems as "missions". I was also able to encourage counting backwards from 20 by using a number line for solving the "missions"."
"I met with the student for the first time yesterday. Since it was our first lesson we spent the first half hour or so getting to know each other and discussing her goals for these tutoring sessions and the reasons she wants to learn German. I brought several different books and resources with me to try out so we did some initial exercises in one of the books, focusing on the alphabet and pronunciation. Then we moved on to common greetings. I have an account on a German language website that has a lot of beginner lessons and games so we used some of those activities to practice the greetings we had gone over."
