The student and I used the session to reviewed for her quiz tomorrow. The quiz will focus on using the first and second derivative of an equation to find its critical points. The quiz will also test her ability to use this information to graph the function. Below is list of the components of the concepts: The first derivative test gives us increasing/decreasing intervals for the original function. It also shows where the maximums and minimums are located. The second derivative test determines concavity. Positive = concave up. Negative = Concave down. To find vertical asymptote, we look at where the original function does not exist. This usually means looking at the denominator (if the function contains one) and seeing where it would equal zero. To find horizontal asymptote, find the limit of the function as it approaches infinity. One can use the information above to graph any equation.
