The was a penultimate, major revision session for the student's application writing. His personal statement is in good shape and we worked on crafting some small details of agreement/grammar. The student had a paper rewrite of a character analysis. During the course of the two hours, we re-worked the opening paragraph, edited the thesis, re-worked the middle paragraphs to keep them aligned with her thesis, and edited her conclusion, taking pieces out and adding new parts to make it more of a summary of her key points. Throughout the paper, we worked on sentence structure, tense consistency, grammar, and spelling.

Today's session consisted of looking up quotes for prompts that may be on the final. The prompts focused on Sophocles' Antigone and covered topics like the tragic hero, moral vs. civil law, who's a wiser character, and whether minor characters' actions influenced Creon's end result.

The student and I worked on sentence combination in our session today. I went over a lesson on the subject, then worked through several workbook exercises with her. We then used these skills to look through her own writing and determine where sentence combination could have helped her make more elegant and articulate arguments. I left an exercise with her to work on for our next meeting.
