Session Summaries by LSAT Tutors

Hialeah, FL LSAT tutoring
The student completed three sections from a test--he got 20 logic games questions correct (went overtime), 23 arguments questions, and 24 reading comprehension questions. These scores would likely translate to a score in the upper 160's and demonstrate some consistency on the test. We reviewed two games and a few arguments questions that were problematic. Then we worked through some new arguments questions from another section. We plan to meet at 10:30 on Friday.

Student has made some progress since I first met with him. He is becoming much more consistent in his games practice. In a practice section he did, he missed only a couple questions in the games he completed. His big struggle is still timing; he didn't finish one of the games. I told him generally it is better to complete 3 games and guess on the 4th than to do partial games; however, such strategies are always subject to exception. We did a couple games during the session; he did better on them than he did on the actual test, which is great evidence of improvement. He is still missing more than he'd like on logical reasoning, but he is getting better at identifying conclusions and seeing flaws in the ways arguments are set up. Additionally, he is getting better at spotting the key words on which certain arguments hinge. Overall, I think he will see an good improvement in his score this test if he's able to focus and apply the strategies we've talked about.

The student and I did a review of the "In and Out" or "Selection" game type. We spent the session reviewing this game type, strategies for effective diagramming, and how to use formal logic in games with a strong emphasis on conditionals. The student really rose to the occasion and performed very well, even leading me through the last game to demonstrate that he had the material down pat. I was very pleased with his performance on the last game, and I think our biggest win was his ability to diagram this game in particular.
