Hialeah, FL GMAT tutoring
The student got a 160 on his practice test--36 correct answers on the combined arguments sections, 18 on logic games, and 21 on reading comprehension. We worked through one logic game, diagrammed another, worked through incorrect answers from one arguments section, then completed some new arguments questions under timed conditions.

This was my final session with the student. We started by talking about some trends we noticed in terms of how the college entrance exam has progressed and changed over the years, and what to expect from the test itself. He then told me that he has been getting some good practice in and has found still that he doesn't really have any specific problem areas. We decided to spend time on logical reasoning and logic games again. We started by going through two logic games that were extremely set-up and inference dependent. I addressed that specific part in his set-up and inferences. We then went through some logical reasoning questions that he did well on. Overall, he has been a pleasure to work with. I think he is prepared and ready for the test, he just needs to stay focused and relaxed and he should do just fine.

Covered a practice section the student had done, then did a section of games and a section and a half of logical reasoning. His speed and proficiency at games has continued to increase, and his logical reasoning is up as well. This was his last session before the LSAT on Saturday.

In this last session with this student we focused on logical reasoning. She had redone two sections from September's test which she took (PT 73), and improved her score in both. We discussed how approaching weaker questions by focusing on the conclusion generally always leads to the right answer -- however, the test creators often throws in trap answers that seem to be right but have 1-2 words that are off. We also went through a couple of tricky parallel reasoning problems in which each of the sentences in the answer choices need to match the prompt. The student will do some games practice tomorrow, the day before the test. Overall she has improved a lot since we began tutoring, and I'm confident she will see a significant improvement in her score on Saturday.

My second GMAT tutoring session with the student went well. We talked about the math review in the GMAT prep guide, which he is still reading through. I suggested that he note the areas of the math review that he is not as familiar with and focus on those types of questions in the practice sections. We then discussed how he did on the verbal portion of the diagnostic exam. We also discussed what to expect on the day of the exam. I outlined basic strategies to answer questions in each of the quantitative and the verbal sections. We practiced the different strategies on a reading comprehension passage and on a critical reasoning question. He would like to focus on one section of the test at a time, starting with problem solving. For our next session, he will complete questions from the problem solving section of the GMAT guide.

Today, the student and I reviewed last week's problems very briefly, and then discussed coordinate geometry and the relationship among length, area, and volume. We went over sample problems related to the coordinate geometric definition of slope and intercept, and then we briefly looked at some mixed geometry problems. Next week we will begin a more holistic review and test-taking strategy-related phase of her studying.
