Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed some material he was learning. He seems to be doing well with his Spanish reading/pronunciation skills. He completed two online "self-check quizzes" over Unit 3 of his textbook. He scored 5/10 on both assessments, and we reviewed the errors he made and why the correct answer was the better choice. We also reviewed using online flashcards from Unit 3, and he was able to identify the correct answer on most of the cards. The last part of the session was dedicated to a practice quiz set up by his Spanish teacher. He can earn extra credit by completing a certain amount of questions. I signed a paper verifying he had reviewed this material. For the next session, I asked him to acquire some flashcards to help memorize certain words and phrases and to help in identifying the different uses of the preterite, imperfect, and the subjunctive tense. He said that he will bring his Spanish homework, practice worksheets, and other material to our next session."
"We covered the verbs 'ponerse', 'decir', 'ser', 'estar'. We also covered the preterite of stem-changing -ir ending verbs."
"I had my second session with the student yesterday. In our first session, we reviewed previous exercises from her teacher. She has been having difficulty with preterit vs. imperfect. I encouraged the student to begin using two Spanish learning websites that will prove helpful for practicing her Spanish. These two sites are valuable tools, not only for offering rules, but for giving examples and tables for verb application. One of the sites even offers quizzes which are corrected on the spot. After reviewing the sites, we completed 2 lengthy practice exercise paragraphs. This rigorous practice helped prepare the student for her test on preterit vs. imperfect tomorrow."
