Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's prof. cancelled class yesterday, so I filled in the material he probably would have covered. We started on integrals today, so went over fundamental theorem of calculus, Riemann sums, and graphical interpretation of integrals. Examples included calculating basic integrals with the power rule. We also did some optimization and a related rate problem from his last exam."
"This morning, we went over the student's extra credit assignment that is due today. We spent time learning the substitution method for integrals, then the integral substitution where the antiderivative is ln x."
"This session covered integrals, u-substitution, integrals of trig functions, and the chain rule. The student could use some more practice with choosing "u" when doing u-substitution. We will continue to work on this. She had a positive attitude."
"This session went pretty smoothly. I felt that we made good progress through defining and understanding derivation, and then applying it to find critical points and local max and mins. I will be sending him some problems later on today that he can work for practice, and for his benefit in general. We may have a session during the week, and another one this weekend."
"This session went really well. So far, our discussion on definite sums and realizing that these are the basis of understanding the integral has been pretty tough and the student hadn't really grasped it. But today, she really grasped it well and worked it out easily. We then discussed a little about the second fundamental theorem of calculus, and did some review examples of the derivative and how it helps us determine shapes of graphs."
"This session, the student and I covered the fundamental theorem of calculus and physical applications of calculus-related graphs and functions, such as acceleration, velocity, and position. Overall, she had minimal difficulty understanding the material as the fundamental theorem is a straightforward topic and we have previously practiced visualizing graphs and their derivatives in other lessons. She was quick to get the topic for the most part, and was able to answer all the sample problems I gave her with ease. She did very well understanding everything this session, and I look forward to continuing that as we tackle more fundamental theorem of calculus and Euler's method in our next session."
