Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's exam and quiz results. He is doing very well in terms of grade average for this class. We then started the new topic the class is covering. We discussed Central Limit Theorem and how to apply it to sampling distributions. We then worked a problem concerning calculating probabilities of different sample proportions."
"Today, we went over standard deviation, Chebyshev's rule, and the empirical rule. The student thought that it was fun refreshing her memory on algebra. She will complete the rest of the chapter 2 material on her own, including the homework and the sample quiz."
"We covered central tendencies, standard deviations, variances, z-scores, data types, and frequency measurements. The student was able to understand almost all of the material with a little trouble with interval percentage in normal distributions. I went over some skills on how to remember which equations to use."
"Last night we went over the different symbols in statistics and how the symbols are different for samples and populations. We also talked about the equations needed to calculate the sample SD and sample variance. We then discussed a histogram in a specific format her teacher requested."
"Today, the student and I reviewed chapter 3 and continued working on chapter 4. Today we reviewed the quiz, which covered standard deviation, variance, and sample/ population differences. I emphasized the fact that these are fundamental concepts of statistics and that he needs to understand these well instead of just pushing forward. After we reviewed this and he seemed more confident, we moved onto the probability topics he will be covering this week. He was quite comfortable with these and did well. He will find out from his teacher when he can retake this test, and we hope to have a tutoring session before then. Additionally, we have another session scheduled for next Saturday at noon!"
"The student had a project she wanted to start working on, but it was mostly numerous worksheets combined together. They had to take data from movie box office totals and calculate common statistics and make some graphs. Then we finished the session by working on some test corrections. She got an 85 on the test and was happy with that but also liked to be able to add to it with test corrections."
