How can a tutor help your child master the HSPT?

Numerous private high schools require potential students to pursue a minimum score on the High School Placement Test, or HSPT. The HSPT is often a very significant test for middle-school students, as the tests scores can serve as a determining factor in a student's acceptance into a prestigious high school.

If you want to give your child an opportunity to potentially perform well on the HSPT test, a personal tutor can be a great asset in gearing up for this pivotal test. Varsity Tutors can assist students in connecting with a tutor in Henderson who could potentially help them understand the concepts of the HSPT. A personalized HSPT tutor can give your child additional information as to how the test works, as well as promoting their self-assurance going into the test day.

The student and I reviewed her list of areas of growth and we decided to focus on monitoring understanding while reading. We read two separate practice passages and worked together to determine the best answers. After reading the passage, I asked her a series of comprehension questions to determine her level of understanding. I noticed that she does a good job of understanding the key points of a passage, but often lacks in understanding how the varying pieces of the passage are related. In our next session, I will suggest she utilize a note-taking strategy to help train her mind to track this information better when reading.
