Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered how to reduce fractions and multiplying/dividing fractions. He had some issues with dividing fractions so we through step by step how to solve the problem. Great session!"
"The student completed his six week exam review sheet during our session. It covered the same principles that we have worked on for the last few weeks. He was performing much better on many of the problems, identifying what need to be done. A few of the tricky problems would throw him off."
"Reviewed the student's math test and made corrections for questions that she made mistakes on. Then questions were made up and completed in the same fashion as those that were incorrect on the test. The largest chunk of time was spent trying to speed up her long division which she has a small mental block about. I am going to make up some short quizzes so she can get some extra practice."
"During our time together, the student and I worked on homework involving factoring imaginary numbers. He seemed to have a quality grasp on the concepts and was very productive during our time together. I sincerely look forward to when we meet again on September 29th at 5:00pm."
"Today we worked on how different operations shift, compress, reflect, or stretch a function. She did well on memorizing the rules. We also discussed how this affects the domain and range of the function."
"We reviewed for his chapter 4 test. It mainly dealt with factoring and using irrational numbers, and imaginary numbers. It went okay. He had issues with completing the square in the beginning, these were resolved by the end of the lesson, but I believe they would still require his attention/practice."
"The student's class is focusing on systems of equations and the practice work/homework he had for this session contained both equation sets and word problems. He has gotten really good at solving the sets of equations but has difficulty with word problems. I am seeing some improvement on his ability to write equations from word problems, but the more difficult word problems are still challenging for him. I think focusing on word problems and graphing of equation sets/inequalities should be a primary focus."
"Today the student and I worked on math homework revolving around decimal representation of fractions and rounding. He has a good grasp of the concept. We also attended to his science homework. Today's topic was DNA and cell replication. His homework is complete and his understanding is getting better. I find telling him the story of what is happening in the process is helping him to grasp the concepts better."
"We went through his textbook and I pointed out important topics through a couple of sections and we did numerous examples of each type of problem as well. He said this tutoring helped a lot and felt much better about the material now."
"The student and I went over a review packet for her test on Monday which included percents and standard to metric conversions. We then covered chapter one in her book which included exponents, order of operations, and fractions (+,-,X,/). She seemed to be struggling the most with converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, but by the end she seemed much more confident in the process. I gave her a few pages of helpful information about multiplying and dividing fractions. She did excellent and persevered through difficult problems involving order of operations. Her extra practice is in her book for her to cover this weekend and I highlighted the problems that I though would be very beneficial for her to cover."
"During this session we mainly covered matrix algebra. The student struggled mostly with word problems. The session went smoothly and effectively. I did leave some extra practice that we will also talk about during next session."
"The student and I had an excellent session. They are currently working on transformations of the absolute value function, and she was struggling to understand how to find equations for these graphs. We then spent the time figuring out how to approach problems using common sense instead of formulas, and by the end she felt like she understood everything. I felt really good about this session."
