Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked with the student on his corrections for math and English. Went over a few types of similar questions in math and English. Also covered the writing portion of the test."
"The first ten minutes of our session were devoted to her completing the essay I had assigned. I gave her several science passages to complete while I critiqued it, as she had cited science as another weakness. We reviewed the science portion, and I showed her that many of the questions at which she guessed could be answered easily by reading closely -- the science test is about interpreting information, not actual knowledge of science. The rest of our time was devoted to the essay section. We worked through her response, both in terms of content and structure. I reviewed grammar, their versus his/her, and so on. Then, I asked her to identify her own errors, which she was frequently able to do correctly. We also explored rhetorical strategies, effective counter arguments, and other ways of crafting a strong persuasive essay. I gave her another prompt to talk through with me in person (not write), and she incorporated much of what we discussed. While she still has a lot of work to do before her test on Saturday, she feels that she definitely knows more than was true before our meetings, and I agree. Best of luck to her!"
"We reviewed strategies for ACT writing. The student completed a full ACT Reading and ACT Science practice test and did very well on both!"
