Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I completed her weekend homework on bar graphs. Then I had her take 3 timed previously made quizzes in order to practice her test taking skills. She did well completing the quizzes on time, but made small mistakes on each of them. We discussed taking your time and checking your answers, and in the future I plan to work on these topics more."
"In this session, we discussed taking derivatives of composite functions that require the use of the chain rule multiple times and in conjunction with the product rule. We also worked on formulating a written explanation of why we did what we did."
"The student told me that he has been taking the PARCC exam and no new math material has been covered. He printed out some worksheets containing ratios and proportions and he worked on these during the session. He understands and grasps ratios and proportions extremely well. He had a great attitude today."
"The student had already taken her final test so I showed her a program she can work on over the summer. We went over how to use the program. I started her on algebra 1 (the class she will take next year), and I also told her she could do the pre-algebra unit to keep her 8th grade skills fresh in her head."
"The student and I have decided to meet weekly to help her push ahead with new content (as opposed to just meeting to review). This week we covered topics of similar triangles and rational expressions."
"During this session, we went back over a test that the student had difficulty with. The test covered solving quadratic equations and required the use of factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. The student already had a strong grasp of how to factor and use the quadratic formula, but he missed points on the test because he did not follow through with the very last step of reporting his answer in the "x=" format. He understands his error and will make sure he properly reports his answer on his next test. He had a bit more trouble with completing the square, but we were able to go over several problems using this method, which greatly improved his understanding."
