Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, our focus was on the binomial distribution. We worked through a number of problems. Each was framed in a very unique and challenging way. However, I offered suggestions on way to figure out the problem, identify what p ("success") is, etc. We used MS Excel to create some of the probability distributions, and I will email the Excel file to her so that she can use it to study. She is a very good student and great to work with."
"In this session, the student and I finished chapter 12, sections 1 and 2, and we began working on section 3. The topics we worked on included writing equations for circles/ ellipses/ hyperbolas, graphing circles/ ellipses/ hyperbolas, identifying the center and radius of a circle, finding the center/ vertices/ covertices/ foci of an ellipse, and determining the center/ vertices/ foci of a hyperbola."
"In this session, the student and I went over limits. In the problems that we went over, they were given specific data limits at certain points and the student was supposed to sketch a possible graph with that data. We went over horizontal and vertical asymptotes and how they related to limits."
"In this session, the student and I went over proportions and proportional change. She walked me through how to do each word problem and correctly calculated each one. I brought an algebra book, and we worked proportion words problems from the book. She did very well with them."
"In this session, we continued reviewing the 6th Grade Common Core Math Diagnostic Test the student completed two sessions ago, picking up with The Number System section. The following subsections were worked on: Interpret and Compute Quotients of Fractions, Fluently Divide MultiDigit Numbers, and Fluently Add, Subtract, Multiply and Divide MultiDigit Decimals. For each subsection, after we worked several problems together, the student then completed several problems independently until she began to obtain correct answers. In our final session next time, we will finish up our work on the last subsection above and either move on to other topics left to review in this section, or work on any homework problems she would like help with."
"In this session, we covered a couple of things. We started off going over her recent test scores and going through the problems that she got wrong. She also had to fill out a test correction sheet for her teacher to turn back in. From there, we went over a few practice problems similar to the once that were on her test that she got incorrect. Some examples dealt with fractions, ratios, and dividing to find percentage. After that, we did some review with fractions and word problems that she struggles with. I left her some sample problems to work out along with a step by step layout that she can use to work the sample problems out. For the next session, we will go over more word problems that deal with finding percentage and dealing with fractions."
