"The student did very well today. We worked on solving algebraic expressions with a mix of positives, negatives, exponents, and various operations. She is progressing and learning to follow the format that will best enable her to answer the question correctly."
"The student had trouble writing the letter "n" and "m" correctly. I assigned some practice in each letter and we read some sentences from her school work. She had trouble with the word "bowling" and we will finish these sentences during the next session. She is still having some trouble writing the number 2 correctly, so I assigned some practice on lined sheets. We reviewed 5+3 and 6+2, and also the reverse forms. Then, I showed her that 7+1 also = 8. We wrote these combinations on her dry board, and left them on for her to look at during the weekend."
"The student has completed his math facts all the way up to the elevens! He has been working really hard, and his next task is to study the elevens to prepare for his next test. We also practice addition and subtraction strategies. I noticed that he is comfortable with using a number line and his finger to help him add and subtract. I explained to him that using these strategies for now are great, but eventually the goal is to get away from using those to become more fluent. He was able to examine math word problems. I explained to him that sometimes in a word problem you will see keywords that tell you what operation you need to use to solve. There are times where you won't see words like altogether, left, decrease, etc. Instead, you could see wandered off. That is the same as subtracting. I introduced to him some more math games on the computer. Overall, I feel like our time together was very productive. He has a lot of accomplishments!"
"The student has finished all of his Level 3 workbooks, but he still has a few pages to do in his geometry and measurement workbook that he wants to finish, so we worked on those problems today. Overall, he did well, but he still has a tendency to rush through and not finish reading the instructions if he thinks he already knows what to do, which leads him astray at times. We will continue to work on this next session."
"The student has made a lot of progress in her multiplication facts. It was obvious that she has been studying in between our tutoring sessions. We went over conversions of decimals, percents, and fractions. She does well with identifying the place value of decimals, however she struggled with the actual quantifying of decimal place value. So, we worked on using decimal blocks as manipulatives to show place value. She did well on ordering percents from least to greatest, but she struggled with ordering decimals from least to greatest. We will be working more on this next session as well. Overall, her attitude has been great, and her enthusiasm for school work has greatly improved since our first session."
"The student has moved from rounding to multi-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping. We practiced this skill first, and she got 19/20 questions correct. The one question she got wrong was due to copying down the problem incorrectly. She practiced capitalization with proper nouns as a skill today, and was able to select the proper noun and correctly capitalize it. The reading passage was about pill bugs. She was reminded to sit up straight and not lean on her hand while reading, which makes her read more accurately and with a better speed."
