Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through the entire book to help the student prepare for his final exam tomorrow. We worked on areas where he was having trouble, and addressed helpful strategies for success on the test."
"The student and I continued work on the review packet they received in class this week. We completed a section on counting theory and probability, then moved on to the most recent topic of conic sections. The class only today learned about hyperbolas and circles, and she and I had not yet gone over ellipses together, so we spent a good amount of time making sure she had the basics of these shapes down, including how to identify which equation yields which graph. Most of our session tomorrow will also be spent on conics, at which point she should be confident on the topic (she is doing well)."
"I explained the next section in Chapter 6. We worked through a dozen or so problems. His grade has improved due to the tutoring."
"During this tutoring session we continued to cover whole, rational, integer, and irrational number sets along with factoring and simplifying functions. Additionally we went over how to read and graph functions to find the domain and range of a function. The student worked through his homework problems and he seemed to have a good understanding of the subjects covered by the end of the tutoring session."
"We started this session by finishing DeMoivre's theorem for complex numbers. We went on to cover partial fractions. We did practice problems on how to split a fraction of degree two and three into fractions with its factors on the denominator. Then, we covered basic properties of circles, hyperbolas, ellipses, and parabolas. At the end of the session we went back over limits, a topic that we covered in our first session. We went through a number of practice problems, and she seems fine with this new material. None of these topics were particularly tricky, yet they were things we needed to cover since they may appear on the final. The student's attitude towards the material is receptive and she is very quick to pick up the new concepts. I don't think she should have a problem skipping the course."
"Today the student worked through about half of his PreCalc review packet. He definitely knows the material, and it's good to go back and refresh old skills before continuing to build off of them this fall. On Friday, he will work through the rest of his PreCalc packet. Also, please have him email me with his paper some time on Thursday, and I will look through it and we can go over any necessary changes during our session on Friday. He is a pleasure to work with, and I look forward to the rest of the semester."
