Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on her online homework and were able to finish. She had to write several paragraphs in Spanish, practice indirect objects and direct objects, the preterite tense, and vocabulary."
"Today was our first session so we looked at a small amount of vocabulary then moved into present subjunctive. I explained to the student the basics of the subjunctive in Spanish, and how to form it, then we did practice activities conjugating in the present subjunctive. He sent me a list of the verbs that his teacher gave him, so I made up some examples to practice the irregular verbs that they are working on. He said he mainly wants to work on verb conjugations at the moment."
"We began by reviewing numbers. We then worked on a reading comprehension in the textbook, practicing pronunciation at the same time. Using questions from the textbook, we also worked on conversational Spanish. Finally, we continued the introduction to verb conjugation in the present tense. The student completed a conjugation chart and seemed to pick up the patterns quickly. I assigned him exercises in Chapter 5 of the textbook to reinforce his knowledge of conjugations."
"The student did very well. Although he is a bit behind now, he will catch up very quickly. We went over the Pimsleur Method, which is a habit of learning and quizzing, learning more and quizzing more, etc. I made clear to the student that his success will come from working hard and working in the very difficult Pimsleur Method way. We then went over the different cases: Nominative, Genitive, Dative, Accusative, and Ablative, and I explained the use of each case. We learned each of the five conjugations and went over the first four in the present indicative (after going over the difference between indicative and subjunctive). We also went over the five declensions. The student is to have as many of these memorized as possible for next week and is to spend at least four and half hours on these paradigms, which I gave him."
"The student and I were able to finish two comprehension sections of Unit 3 that he needs to turn in tonight for grading. I noticed that his grade has increased by about 12 points since I started working with him a little over a week ago. He likes having a teacher to discuss the material with him instead of simply following the online notes and completing the assignments. I suggested to him tonight that he might want to ask his online teacher if he could retake a few of the quizzes that he completed before beginning the tutoring sessions. He said he would ask about this. He continues to work hard and maintain a positive attitude."
"The student did absolutely great today! We finished our lesson on second-declension adjectives, then we launched into our coverage of the present tense of sum, especially in context of its role as a linking verb (the predicate)."
