Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session we covered topics related to the heart, blood vessels, hormone interaction within the heart, how the heart beats and immunity. There is a lot of material covered in the assignment that the student is working on and she is doing great with it. She will be finishing the assignment and will let me know if she needs any further direction."
"In this session, we went over the anatomy of the heart. This included the pathway that blood takes to travel through the heart. We also covered arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, and veins. She had a good understanding of the material once the session was finished."
"Today was the day before the exam. Since last session we have kept in contact over email for any minor questions that have popped up. I would respond over email and brought some extra material and videos to watch for the session today, to help better explain excitation contraction coupling, cross bridge cycle, and neuromuscular junction. We spent a good amount of time covering that for the session, as well as going through her PowerPoints from class. I explained all the terms and shorthand used by the teacher. We also covered physical anatomy on a body and the ATP and energy production pathways of aerobic and anaerobic. Once that was all finished, we covered a little bit more on flashcards and discussed the plans moving forward for tutoring. Overall, she showed she put a lot of effort into her work and studying since last time. She appreciates when I go over the material a little more in-depth, and seems to have a better grasp of the material as well. She did struggle with the naming the anatomy portion, she had not answered in the fill in the blanks yet. Which made it difficult to cover that section of her studying. She said she would practice it more tonight as well. Otherwise great session today."
"The student and I reviewed the SAT book, mostly cellular respiration. He is going to use his practice tests in the back of the book, and we will review those later. I told him I will look for additional practice tests."
"For his test on Friday, the student wanted to discuss the questions on a review packet from his teacher. The main topics covered were bond polarity, dipoles, and molecular shape. He was very successful in linking bond polarity to electronegativity, but needed some help recalling molecular shapes, particularly for bent and trigonal pyramidal structures, which are more complicated due to unbonded electron pairs. With a little review, he was in excellent shape there as well. The last topic, dipoles, took a little more review. The most successful way I found for him to understand this topic was by representing dipoles as vectors and giving him a brief, conceptual overview of vector addition. By the end of the session, the small holes in his understanding of the material were filled, and he seemed ready to do great on the test."
"The student and I went over some nuclear chemistry. Then, we worked on some more state assessment review problems. He has had significant improvements; in his most recent exam, he scored a 93! I look forward to his state assessment performance."
