Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Final proofreading of the student's document for oral defense of doctoral dissertation. Made minimal suggestions for correction."
"We focused first on math, specifically on telling time and fractions. I also introduced algebra (single variable equations) to the student. We then had lots of focus on essays using descriptive details."
"Today we reviewed the student's draft for his final paper in English composition. He has a great topic. and I taught him how to scour his own work for simple mistakes."
"First, we went over the pre-writing of the student's essay that she had been working on since our last session. Then, we discussed the email that her professor had sent her. We now know that her essay has to be 10- 12 pages. However, we still don't know the due date. We also discussed how her essay should be organized, academic vocabulary, and sentence phrasing. During the session, we mainly focused on the specifics of what the student wanted to write in the intro, as well as quotes and in-text citations vs. paraphrasing. She finished writing the introduction to her essay during the session; which is a big win. Finally, we scheduled when the student would be finished writing each of the major paragraphs of her essay. We have agreed that she will write one paragraph of her essay a day and be finished with the bulk of the writing one week from the date of this session, with revising and editing to follow."
"First, we worked on math. Student 1 did word problems, while Student 2 worked on divisibility rules. Both boys did well. Then, we worked on reading comprehension to find the main ideas in an article."
"For our introductory session, the student and I discussed his goals for our sessions together, and the issues he had with his writing as it stands. We went over a piece he had written with an eye for the grammar, syntax, and flow issues he was concerned about, and discussed our our overall aim for our time together."
