Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued going through square roots and the student began to do them more naturally. Right now she is moving cautiously through them, and my eventual goal is for them to become more intuitive to her. We also began reviewing some previous concepts. She remembered percentages well. She also learned how to factor an equation without using the quadratics formula."
"The student and I went through his answers to the problems I assigned him as homework in our previous session. I had him walk me through his thought process on each of the questions in order to reinforce the good strategies he's building as well as explain alternative strategies on some questions. He did a good job of looking out for key words in the critical reading problems, a strategy that we have been practicing. He continues to improve in math as well. His mathematical reasoning ability is high for his age, which will make learning advanced strategies to save time much easier for him to learn down the road with many students. In our session, I showed him how to "FOIL" equations when there are two two-term expressions in parentheses that are multiplied. Despite never having seen this before, he picked up on it quickly and was able to successfully employ it on the next problem. I left him with several math problems, several critical reading problems, and some vocabulary words to become familiar with for next session."
"We went over the types of passages and types of questions in the preliminary admissions test reading section and covered test-taking strategies that could help him save time."
