Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I discussed on his math and his vocabulary homework. He was assigned a worksheet that calculated the perimeter and area of several different shapes. His vocabulary homework was a worksheet that required short answer responses. We reviewed both, and I left him with an assignment for the weekend that is due to me on Monday."
"The student and I worked on her math homework, which this chapter focuses on geometry and specifically surface area of three dimensional shapes. We reviewed the formulas for the surface area of rectangular and triangular prisms, and then briefly introduced the next section which covers volume for rectangular prisms. She is a very quick and intuitive learner; I would encourage her to focus on slowing down and perfecting her arithmetic when solving these problems."
"We reviewed what we did in the last sessions. We covered: graphing using a table, finding axis of symmetry, finding the vertex, finding the y-intercept, determining whether a graph will open up or down, graphing, finding minimum or maximum, finding the roots of a function by factoring, and solving by completing the square. He said that today was our best session and he feels like he understands everything."
"The student and I covered volume of squares and rectangles today. She understood this topic well and was able to do the problems without any problems. We also started prepping for the Math assessment exam. We were able to complete half of the entire exam, and it did not look like she struggled with any of the questions. We will finish the exam next time. While she understands how to solve the problems, I would like her to get faster at solving the problems. To do this, she must completely memorize her times tables."
"The student and I worked exclusively on mathematics this session. We went over his homework that I assigned a couple weeks ago, and refreshed his knowledge of mean, median and mode. We expanded on this by going through his football trading cards, and using different players' stats as lists. For homework I gave him three more stat sets to work with."
"We had an awesome session covering addition of fractions with unlike denominators, simplifying fractions, vocabulary, and grammar! The student is really starting to excel in his understanding of these topics and we ran out of things to talk about in regards to vocabulary because he knew everything! Great job today!"
