Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The concepts covered specifically in this session were use of quadratic equation, systems of equations, creating linear equations, logarithmic properties and equations, slope, finding zeroes for polynomials, and composite functions. The student was struggling most with using properties to manipulate equations. The student's attitude toward the material reviewed was engaged and participatory. The strategies included were to get familiar with the properties to recognize when to use them to manipulate equations and also to make changes line by line."
"The student and I had a great session. She was already familiar with logs and log properties before we began, but needed help working out a few problems on her own. She was very enthusiastic about mastering the lesson and she was able to learn very quickly. By the end of the session, she was able to do all problems on her own and she was able to complete her gateway packet."
"We covered factoring quadratic equations, the definition of a function, and how to identify functions and relations. In addition we looked at linear and exponential growth models. I left the student with some practice problems in a textbook dealing with functions and relations, and graphing equations with inequalities. She has a great attitude toward learning the material."
"We went through differentiation and integration. Then, we derived the derivative using the definition, and applied it to functions to calculate analytical solutions. Went through derivatives as they apply to trig functions, hyperbolic, power rule, chain rule, logs, and word problems involving instantaneous velocity with respect to average velocity. There is further work assigned to her to make sure she understands derivative and introduction to integral work."
"The student and I covered ellipses: the standard form of the equation, x & y intercepts, and solving for the foci. It seemed like his teacher hadn't covered the material in necessary depth and the student was looking for a general understanding of the concepts. He picked up the material quickly, and was able to solve the problems in his head by the end of the session."
"We continued to prepare the first student for her upcoming placement test, and she's really looking good for getting into Algebra I! I was so proud of the second student's achievement on his last test. Looking forward to seeing how the first student does on the chapter reviews when I return."
