Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I worked on understanding the relationship between positive and negative numbers for her math class. We also continued working on her Apache Tribe project for English and social studies. She showed a lot of creativity and attention to detail; I was very pleased with her work today. I want her to continue working on distinguishing between absolute value and the value of the negative numbers."
"We did further review in preparation for the student's math test tomorrow. Topics included ratios, word problems, graphing, and solving equations and simplification with negative numbers. The student is still having some trouble with word problems and graphing. Extra practice will only help and we will continue to work on these topics in our sessions over spring break."
"We reviewed the student's homework. The homework covered solving equations with the distributive property. She is doing quite well solving equations, she will occasionally perform the wrong operation, but I showed her how she can always go back and check her answer. After finishing her homework, we did some more practice problems covering the same topic."
"We worked on chemistry again today. We went over the current material which focused on orbitals and electron configurations. We looked at both the long hand method and the short hand method using the noble gases. Afterwards we started going over the next class's material which was focused on trends in the periodic table. We talked about electronegativity, ionization energy, ionic radii, paramagnetism and metals/ nonmetal trends. We covered a lot in this session, which should help with preparing for lectures."
"Today, the student and I began working on finding tangent and secant lines and computing derivatives. She did a fantastic job working through the problems. We also looked at her exam from last week. She did great on her test! First tests are always the hardest, and now that she knows how her teacher gives exams, she will do even better next time. For homework, she will continue to work through the suggested problems and we will continue to work on them next week."
"We worked on chemistry today. We worked on problems that involved ratios of moles and ratios of masses. We did some of the classic problems where you convert percentages to masses, then divide out the masses by the molecular weight, and then use these ratios to come up with the empirical formulas or molecular formulas if more info. is given. We did similar types of problems that involved masses and reactions of two elements."
