Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I reviewed sections 9.1 to 9.6 in his geometry book. He has an exam on Friday. He requested that we work on that so we worked on the entire review except for one section that he stated was super easy. He is very smart and highly driven and he went through the problems with no difficulty. The section he had the most questions on was the probability section, but once we did the problems and talked over the steps, he felt more confident. He says he plans to score 100% on the exam and I believe he has the capacity to do so."
"We covered similar polygons and started looking at similar triangle proofs. The student did well on most things. He was a little slow remembering a few concepts, but overall he did well. He was positive today. We worked through everything together, but I made sure to have him take the lead and to ask him leading questions when he got stuck. Math is going well."
"The student is studying coordinate geometry: learning about the distance and midpoint formulas, the equation of a circle, and solving for slope of a line. I went over the concepts with him then gave him several example problems for each topic, some that required using multiple concepts at once. He had some trouble at first but started catching on as we worked through more examples. For a few problems, he wasn't sure how to start the solution, but with one hint, he was able to complete the answer. We will try to practice more on identifying problem types and recognizing the right approach to solving. Overall, it was a great session."
"This week, the student's class had just been introduced to some vocabulary related to circles and angles, in particular inscribed angles. Then, we went over the workbook page assigned as homework. This started teaching the relationships between inscribed and central angles. Then, we did some extra practice with these concepts. This went well overall, and the student made great progress with naming angles with three letters, understanding the relationship between inscribed and central angles and their definitions, and naming arcs. I hope that the extra work we did is relevant to what her class ends up covering next week! She definitely mastered the concepts she needed to this week."
"Reviewed for upcoming test on series and sequences. Discussed different types of series and how to determine explicit and recursive formulas. Worked problems out of the book. The student has a good grasp of the material."
"Today, we covered proofs of circles and common tangents that were external and internal. The student did a great job of finding statements and reasons. Then, when we covered tangents, she did great using the Pythagorean Theorem to solve right triangles. I think she now has a much better understanding of this material."
