Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was a bright and eager student! We first discussed how he usually learns best and discovered he is more of a visual learner. Taking this into consideration, we began with transformational geometry, specifically: dilations, reflections and translations. He seemed to master dilations and reflections but was still struggling with translations by the end of our time today. We discussed what each session will look like, highlighting the fact that we will start each new session by a quick assessment over the content from the last."
"The student and I reviewed trigonometric functions for her test. We went over the graphs of sine, cos, secant, cosecant, tangent, and cotangent. We looked at phase shifts, amplitude changes, sinusoidal axes, asymptotes, and domain and range. We also looked at solving trigonometric equations, such as sin(x) + sin(-x) =1. She continues to do very well. She has a great attitude towards learning."
"The student and I covered how to fit a line to data, what that means, and what the correlation coefficient is for the model. He missed some of this information in class so we worked together to figure out what he needed to do."
"I worked with the student concerning finding the axis of symmetry and the vertex of quadratic equations. She was successful in understanding the basic concepts and patterns to solve the worksheet questions."
"I tutored both girls today! They both had huge packets of review materials, most of which their teacher hasn't taught. We went over solving pairs of equations; they're both good at generating the equations, but get confused by some. Naturally we will keep on working on these going forward!"
"We reviewed for her final. We covered solving quadratics using quadratic formula, factoring, and square root. She struggled a bit with the quadratic formula, so I encouraged her to recognize and be aware of the common themes in her mistakes (that way she can double check she does not make the same mistakes during her final.) I left her with some extra practice of quadratic formula and factoring."
