Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has an individual Algebra 2 test on Thursday, and she had a group test on Tuesday. She said that someone in her group carried them on the group test, so we worked to make sure she understood all of the concepts from Chapter 4. Knowing that we plan to meet again today (3/11), we only worked through the first half of graphing sinusoidal functions. We plan to finish the review today and make sure that she is entirely prepared to match her group test grade on the individual test."
"The student worked on two review worksheets for an upcoming quiz covering algebraic sequences, finding the nth term given the difference and the first term, the arithmetic sum given the number of terms, the first sum and the difference. She also reviewed geometric sequences, finding the nth term given the rate and the first term and finding the summation of n number of terms."
"The student and I continued to review for her upcoming midterms. We covered polynomial functions during this session. We went over end behavior of polynomials at first, and she improved over the course of our session."
"The student did phenomenal during this session. We first worked on logic problems that covered money. He was able to complete the two sheets with minimal prompting. We then covered multiplying fractions, reducing, and converting improper fractions. He was able to complete all steps to answer the questions. He used our notes to help him to solve problems. He was able to demonstrate the use of mental math and during his think-alouds, he demonstrated that he was utilizing previous skills learned. He then took a quiz on a website covering the topic and he was able to score 100%. I want to continue to strengthen his visualization process and his note-taking strategies."
"We began with reviewing of flashcards. Then we did the 1-minute drill ( 8/20 with 100% accuracy). After that we reviewed the 4 ways to do multiplication using the targeted facts. Next we played BAM! which focused on filling in the gaps of 3s and incorporated movement that crosses the sides of the body to help with concentration and memorization. We viewed a growth mindset video (The Dot) and she filled out a goals sheet. She feels she can memorize her multiplication facts in 2 months with practice, being good, listening, and doing her homework. Last we did an array "art" project using a hole punch. Practice sheets and the array project were left for her to work on until we meet again."
"I am very proud of the student for her work today. I think it was one of the best tutoring sessions we've ever had! She was very focused and motivated to do her work, and she even told me that she thinks math is fun! She finished up the packet her teacher sent home for extra practice, and I could tell she was very proud of herself for finishing it so quickly. She really seems to understand decimals and their relationship to fractions. We even did extra practice, turning fractions into decimals with more difficult problems, and she caught on fast. I also taught her how to solve multiplication problems with whole numbers and fractions, and she seemed to really understand it. We also went over some of the problems she missed on her division fast facts quiz last week, and we will continue practicing to improve her speed and accuracy."
